Program Notes
At the circus or carnival, one often wanders into “the house of mirrors,” a maze of rooms partitioned not by flat painted walls, but by misshapen, shiny mirrored surfaces. Rather than accurately reflecting appearance, there is a distortion of visual reality, at times disconcerting and disorienting – yet always comical. On occasion, there may be a stretch of reflective wall that is flat, offering a reminder of one’s true appearance; but this lasts only until the next distorted reflective surface is encountered.
